Sexual Assault/Rape

Rape, sexual assault, or the attempt to do either is a crime. The rapist can be anyone...a neighbor, a date, a friend, someone you do not know, or a relative.

You have the right to say no to anyone who tries to touch you in any way which makes you uncomfortable. If the person will not leave you alone, try to get away as soon as possible.

What you say or do or wear does not matter. If you have been raped, it is NOT your fault.  You are the victim, not the criminal.

The victim of an assault needs to have people to talk with about their feelings...people who will listen for as long as it takes. Children Services, Victim Assistance, and Crossroads Crisis Center have people trained to help victims of rape and assault. You can call them anytime, day or night. Don’t be afraid to call for help. They care.

Victims of rape or sexual assault should see a doctor right away. If you want someone from the above agencies to meet you at the hospital to help, call them. Do not shower, bathe, brush your teeth, or change clothes.
